We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Egger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
After a 15-year career in Broadcast Meteorology, I clearly understood the devastating effects of weather and our changing climate on people and capital, firsthand. After working alongside Kathryn Prociv at The Weather Channel, we decided to team up to turn our knowledge, experience, leadership skills and love of science into “business” by launching Monarch Weather + Climate Intelligence.
As women leaders in the business world, Monarch hopes to inspire the next generation of young girls and eager scientists and raise each other up through the power of example and collaboration.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a woman-owned business with a team of Certified Consulting Meteorologists (CCM) and GIS Analysts, providing meteorological and climate services via custom forecasting, modeling and advisory within the insurance, tech, energy, health and agricultural sectors. Despite starting our business during a worldwide pandemic, the truth is, the weather never stops. There will always be a need for forecasting and risk analysis. In fact, we see the demand for more sustainable solutions growing exponentially as our climate changes.
Luckily we were able to forge through challenging social and economic times and create innovative products for our clients from a remote working environment.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, considering I live in San Diego, the answer to this question isn’t difficult.
For a day trip, I would likely take them to my favorite spot at the Meditation Gardens in Encinitas. The beautifully landscaped gardens include a koi pond, endless flowers and a stunning clifftop ocean view. From there we’ll take a walk down the 145 steps to the bluff at Swami’s Beach, one of San Diego County’s most popular surfing spots.
After spending some time enjoying the ocean breeze and impeccably perfect weather, we’ll walk over to Goodonya (an organic eatery) for a healthy lunch and iced matcha latte.
